Our Lenten Promise

So for the last couple of years, we've been pretty good about giving up something for Lent. Two years ago, we gave up fast food and last year, we gave up eating out altogether. And not to say that we haven't had a slip here and a slip there, but we've done ok, and then this year came along. This year we gave up booze. I say "gave" because... well... we lasted four days. Sigh. Wine = good. Instead we're going back to giving up fast food (which was surprisingly difficult, if I recall accurately) and trying to take a more pro-active approach. We've decided to try and do one house-keeping thing every day for the next forty. We may clean something or sort something or put something away. I guess we'll see how it goes!

On another note, Kathleen's vacation requests have been approved this week, which means that she will be joining John and Da Camera in England and Scotland in July and August. And SHE IS EXCITED. Highlights of the trip will include singing Evensong and concerts in some of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world, like Beverley Minster and Yorkshire. Though not technically a honeymoon, it will be a lovely way to celebrate our newlyweddishness!

Tuxedos!

Well, we had a productive Family Day (for all non-Albertans, that's the February civic holiday; thanks very much, Don Getty) and got all the details of the tuxes worked out. All the tuxes will be black, with John wearing an ivory vest and tie and the groomsmen in black vests and ties. Because we were able to get an extra tux for free, we've rented a tux for Zac, Kathleen's nephew, which will match John's.

Now that the ball is rolling on the men's clothing, the next big project is to get the invitations finished. We made a major step in that direction this weekend by figuring out how much paper we need to buy, so that's an errand that will be easy to run this week.

Other than that, we are looking forward to the arrival of our dinette set. It was supposed to come this past Thursday, but due to a miscommunication at the warehouse, half our order arrived and got sent back, and the other half got cancelled. And nobody called us. So we're still eating off the floor... :)

Now we HAVE to get married...

We have purchased our wedding rings!! Kathleen's ring is being sized and will be ready by the end of the week, but John's needs to be special-ordered, so it won't be ready for a month and a half or so. We think that's because the REALLY BIG ruby Kathleen convinced John to get needs to be specially mounted. :)

More Things Checked off the List

Well, we are quickly working our way from big picture wedding decisions to the detailed stuff, which seems about where we should be a mere 5 months before the big day. FIVE MONTHS!!

We are almost finished designing our invitations, and figuring how much paper and envelopes we need to buy. Fabric was purchased this weekend for bridesmaids dresses, and now measurements are being sought so that sewing can begin! Communication is underway about a cake! This weekend, we are going to go tux shopping and wedding ring shopping, so that will be two more significant items that we can cross off the list. Other things on our mind are guest lists for pre-wedding parties and our wedding favours, which shall remain a surprise (to most!) until the day.

In short, we never seem to be lacking things to do!!
