As we tip-toe up on the "6 week to the wedding" mark (not that we're counting), things are falling in to place almost daily, which is a good feeling. Since our last post, we've met with Michelle at Windermere to cement the plans for our menu and set up of the hall. The renovations they completed this spring look great! We are looking forward to golfing a round there and having a nice dinner sometime early in June. The course looks fresh and beautiful.
We've also finally figured out our wedding favours, so we should be able to have those assembled, probably with the help of some bridesmaids, in the next couple of weeks. John completed plans for the wedding party transportation, so if everything goes according to plan (and it should!), a nice white limousine should be waiting for us when we're finished at the church. Plans for the music continue to fall in to place, and we're so grateful that so many members of the church choir, and so many friends, have agreed to come and help support the music during the wedding ceremony. The Orders of Service are almost finished being typed out, so all that will be left is formatting and printing. Other printing projects - name cards, menu cards, etc. - have just been started, but we hope will come together quite easily. And finally, we've made what we hope will be the last appointment with our photographer, to order our engagement pictures and give him our list of requested pictures for the wedding day.
We're looking forward in the coming weeks to pre-wedding festivities. We are going to a wedding tomorrow, and in between the ceremony and the reception, Kathleen is going to a shower for a girl friend who is being married two weeks after us. There are weddings going on everywhere - it's very exciting! Next weekend is John's bachelor weekend in Jasper, ending with a fun BBQ at the house. And the final bridal fitting is next week too! So many things to remember...
And hard to believe that in just a couple of weeks we begin tour preparation with Da Camera Singers. Time is flying by!

Details, Details, Details
Well, once again, we have neglected our blogging duties. But in our defence, the last couple of weeks have exposed how much work there is left to do before the wedding (seven weeks tomorrow!)... in short, the details have arrived!
So we're setting up meetings with the people we've hired (DJ, Photographer, Reception Hall, etc...) to start working on cementing the plans, getting our orders of service typed up, and our choir music sorted. Speaking of the choir, we predict about 40 singers, featuring the church choir with guests and friends... it's very exciting to think about! It's also exciting to hear of friends and families making their final travel plans - what a party we are going to have this summer in Edmonton. :)
In other news, the basement is dry (knock on wood) and new eavestroughs are on their way. We are hoping that the new eaves will have a significantly positive impact on the water issue in the backyard, with further solutions to come in the way of landscaping over the summer. Meanwhile, we planted the veggie garden earlier this week, and were hoping to get flowers in this weekend, but the weather might have other plans. We'll see! The cats continue to enjoy carefully supervised explorations of the back yard or jaunts out onto the (covered) front porch, from which they have an excellent view of Mr. Robin who resides on the lawn. Hence, the need for supervision.

Snorkeling, anyone?
So this week, our seepage problem in the basement went from being a minor problem to a fairly major problem. We've had A LOT of rain since mid-week, and we have a lake on the north side of the house that is the source of most of the water. We're hoping to have it pumped out at some point today, either by renting a pump from Home Depot or by having someone come and do it for us.
Fortunately, our basement is all sloped towards the floor-drain, so the water is at least ending up there. The trick for us is ensuring that the path for the water is clear, because it's not necessarily coming in close to the drain. We've moved all the furniture to the highest ground we can manage, and tried to make sure that nothing perishable is in danger. Everytime we turn around though, we find a new little trickle, and sometimes a big trickle, and that's discouraging. We came home from dinner last night, and found that the entire floor of the laundry room was soaked, so much so that we couldn't really identify at what exact points the water was coming in.
Anyway, the rain is supposed to stop today, which should help, and then we can set about figuring out what to do next. We have calls out to a number of eavestroughing companies, so that's the first step.
