Day 16

Starting Point: Toronto, ON
Ending Point: Chicago, IL
Mileage: 852 km (updated as promised!)
Weather: Gorgeous!
Accommodations: The Sutton Place

I would just like to start today's post by reporting that our neighbours in the Royal York were particularly amorous last night, so we didn't get very much sleep.  Seriously, folks.  They were "busy" from 11pm until 5am. That's not normal, right???

Anyhoo...

Today, we packed all of the (non-fatal, non-injurious, non-serious) road-trip "issues" into a single day.  These included two unscheduled detours because we either took the wrong exits from the interstate or because we chose exits that were under major construction.  And there was A LOT of construction.  We also learned that the highway driving is done just a wee bit differently on the interstate than on the highways we're used to driving.  We are used to a system where most people drive in the right lane until there is a need to pass.  On the interstate, it works like this: The right lane is reserved for trucks and people who are stuck behind trucks.  Everybody else crowds into the left lane where they drive really fast and really close to one another.

Driving into Chicago was an adventure.  We knew that the highway into Chicago was a toll road but we didn't have any idea how much the toll was.  So we were ready for any number of possibilities.  But the toll was only sixty cents.... so anti-climatic! We drove away from the toll booth thinking that this whole system wasn't going to be so bad until we realized that there were multiple toll stops along the route.  The second toll stop charged $1.50.  And then the last, $3.50.  It starts to add up after a while!!

John managed the driving into Chicago like an expert and we made it to our hotel with a minimum of problems. We had a delicious dinner at Tavern on Rush across the street from the hotel and are now getting comfortable in our room for the evening.

Tomorrow, WRIGLEY FIELD.  One of us is realllllllly excited.
