Day 4

Starting Point: Grand Forks, ND
End Point: Marquette, MI
Mileage: 831 km
Weather: Sunny and hot, all day long!
Accommodations: Ramada

We had a bit of a difficult start today as somebody in our hotel in North Dakota had told all of his friends that our room was the party room.  So we got knocks on our door three times during the night, including at about 4am.  John went to the door at the last knock, yanked it open, and said, "You have the wrong room." And then he slammed the door.  And the young man offered a very kind apology by shouting, "Well f*ck you!" through the door.  So that was nice.

A big drive today through Minnesota, Wisconsin and into Michigan.  If you can imagine John and I driving through the Midwest, singing along with the 80's station on our satellite radio at the top of our lungs, that's a pretty accurate picture of our day.  Many thanks to Jack and Diane, and Tommy and Gina, for the 80s classics!

Highlights of the day include visiting Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox in Bemidji, passing what must have been the world's largest representation of the 10 commandments and passing through Grand Rapids, birth place of Judy Garland!  We have taken note that all of the banks in this part of the world look like funeral homes...

This evening, we went out in Marquette looking for a place to eat and we found a pub that served fantastic wings and terrible nachos.  Unfortunately, after supper, we wandered down by the docks and found a kind of Taste of Marquette festival going on, which would have been nice to know before we'd stopped at the afore-mentioned pub!

On to Espanola tomorrow!
