Day Two!

Starting Point: Saskatoon, SK
End Point: Winnipeg, MB
Mileage: 862km
Weather: Sunny all day with a few scattered showers along the way
Accommodations: Fairmont

We started off day two of this adventure by playing eighteen holes at Dakota Dunes golf course in Saskatoon.  Despite the rainy forecasts predicted, the sun shone brightly for our entire round, though the wind did make play on some holes tricky. We won't talk about our scores. On our way to the golf course this morning from the hotel, we were entertained by a gentleman in a pickup truck next to us who was singing along, dramatically, to The Who's Pinball Wizard.  Complete with dancing!  You go, guy. You go.

The day's travels took us through Regina, Brandon and into Winnipeg.  We chose to avoid an unpaved road only to discover that our highway became unpaved due to some construction, making for some interesting (and dusty) driving.  And we had a quintessential Western Manitoba experience at a (very) rural gas station advertising "Sche-Bangs."  John took the bait and asked what it was and in essence, it was a whole bunch of different kinds of meat, wrapped in bacon. The gas station attendant told us it was invented by the French.

The highlight of today's drive was the last 100 km into Winnipeg in the dark.  Though we were both very tired, we witnessed five separate fireworks displays in the distance in various communities.  And the downtown core is alive and kicking, despite the late hour.

Happy Canada Day, everybody!
